Re: One thing has me worried.
Here's what I know from seeing a Q&A panel with writer/producer Javier
Grillo-Marxuach at Dragoncon a few years ago.
1. The producers began the series with a very definite end in mind
(which would explain everything), and the first few eps of the show
were written towards that end.
2. The original end/overall storyline of the show was supposed to be
very sci-fi, with sci-fi explanations for everything.
3. Jackass ABC execs said, "Huh? Science fiction? Nah, don't make
it science fiction. Viewers don't like sci-fi. Take out all the
sci-fi elements. Just, uh, focus on the character backstories and
just make the island mysterious and weird and mystical but DON'T USE
SCI-FI.
4. Writers say, "We can't really do this w/o sci-fi; if we don't
include lots of heavy sci-fi elements then the show is just going to
be a bunch of weird, incoherent mysteries that never get explained.
5. ABC says, "I am a TV executive and I have lots of money and power
and a clean diaper on my retard ass so DO WHAT I SAY, you stupid
writers! You have NO CHOICE! Make it as mysterious as you want but
NO SCI-FI!"
6. Show piles on more and more mysterious plot twists and weirdness
but never explains jack shit.
6.Javier gets frustrated, quits the show.
